A Rip Through Time

Book Review:

Canadian bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s new historical fiction/crime/mystery story is one of the latest arrivals to the SSS Library. I wasn’t sure quite what to expect when I cracked it open, but it easily passed my routine twenty-page test (if it doesn’t grab the attention by then, just put it away). Armstrong deftly sweeps the reader up into a strange and suspenseful, time-travelling crime fest with enough twists and turns to keep even a roller coaster fiend satisfied. Let me set the stage.

Modern day female-cop, Mallory, gets transported back to Edenborough as it was in 1869 where she inhabits the body of a house maid to an enigmatic undertaker. If that’s not weird enough, she is inexplicably wound up in the hunt for a serial killer with connections to her modern-day life. How did she get there? Can she fit into this strange old world? Will she ever get home? Could she be the killer’s next victim? Implausible, you say. Totally, but its enjoyably exhilarating if you just go with it.

Recommendation: A finely finessed who-dun-it puzzle this is not, so if that’s what you like I suggest you go elsewhere. But if you fancy a little blood and gore with spine-tingling jump scenes, all inside a Victorian setting, pick this title up. I had a lot of fun with it!
